Story: The Woman Who Cleaned the Masjid

There’s a beautiful story from the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ that reminds us of the importance of purity.

There was a woman who used to clean the Masjid. Her role seemed small in the eyes of people, but to Allah, it was significant. One day, the Prophet ﷺ noticed she was missing and asked about her. The companions replied that she had passed away and they had already buried her.

The Prophet ﷺ was deeply saddened that they hadn’t informed him. He went to her grave, prayed for her, and acknowledged her humble yet profound service.

Her act of maintaining the purity of the Masjid—a sacred space for worship—was beloved by Allah. It showed that Allah, Al-Quddus, loves those who strive for cleanliness and sanctity in both physical and spiritual forms. Even the smallest acts of purifying something for Allah’s sake are noticed by Him.

Meaning and Context

This name appears in the Quran, where Allah says:

‘He is Allah, other than whom there is no deity, the Sovereign, the Pure.’
